Downrush

Downrush is a collection of programs that run on a Toshiba FlashAir SDHC card inserted into a Synthstrom Deluge audio synthesizer. Because it provides a WiFi interface, you can use it to download and upload files without removing the card from the synth. Downrush is gradually adding specialized tools for viewing and editing the various XML files that the Deluge uses for storing songs, kits, and synth patches.

At present, Downrush consists of 3 parts.

To view a Youtube video demonstrating the features of Downrush circa March 2018, click here.

Downrush is an open-source project hosted on Github. It is free software with liberal license terms. The project URL is https://github.com/jamiefaye/downrush.

To download the latest release for installation, go to https://github.com/jamiefaye/downrush/releases and download the downrush.zip file. Follow the directions in the README.txt file inside the unzipped DR directory or read them here (after the file list).

The Toshiba FlashAir SDHC cards is primarily sold as a way to do wireless transfers from digital cameras. It is far more flexible than that, and has found a community of makers/hackers who have adapted it for use in 3D printers and as a controller for the "Internet of Things". Toshiba's web site includes an example showing someone using it to control a model train.

The Toshiba FlashAir card is available on Amazon, as well as in other places. I search for "FlashAir w-04" and get results for 16GB and 32GB cards. (Don't get a 64GB card even if you can, they won't work on a Deluge). Make sure you get a W-04 card, as that is the latest generation (and fastest) available. As of 3/22/2018 the prices are $30 and $42 (before tax) respectively.

Installaton of the Downrush software is still a little harder than I wish it was. You need to download the software distribution, unzip it, insert the FlashAir card into your computer, use a system control panel dialog (Windows), or enter a command line (Mac OS) to unhide a directory, and then copy two directories onto the card. (You also have to copy the 4 directories (KIT, SAMPLE, SONG, SYNTH) that came with your Deluge onto the card.

I made a Youtube video demonstration of the installation process you can view to get an idea of what is involved.

I am offering a service where I will do everything above (except copying over the KIT, SAMPLE, SONG, SYNTH directories) for a shipping and handling charge of $25 domestic, $30 international first class mail. This is assuming that you purchase and send me a working W-04 Toshiba FlashAir card. If you want me to buy the card for you, I will get them from Amazon and add that cost in.
